A nighttime air raid caused numerous injuries, fires, and damage to buildings, cars, and infrastructure in various areas of the city.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that explosions occurred in six of the city’s ten districts. During the day, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reaffirming a support that seems increasingly superficial.
This escalation occurs at a time of high tension for Kiev, following the U.S. blocking of a delivery of military aid already approved, including ammunition for air defense systems. The White House not only suspended almost all aid to Kiev, but also did not plan for new funding in the next budget.
Trump’s Response
“I’m not happy at all”, Trump said in reference to the conversation with Putin, adding that there was “no progress” in his request for a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, during the approximately one-hour conversation, Putin insisted that Moscow considers it essential to address the “deep-rooted” causes of the war, a phrase in Russian diplomatic language generally means a demilitarized Ukraine and outside the Euro-Atlantic defense system.
Zelensky’s Evaluation
Zelensky evaluated the dialogue with the U.S. president positively. “We had a deep conversation about the capabilities of the defense industry and joint production. We are ready for direct projects with the United States and believe that this is of fundamental importance for security, especially in terms of drones and related technologies”, Zelensky wrote in a social media post.

Despite the stalemate in the Ukrainian conflict, the conversation between Trump and Putin reveals a growing shared interest in improving bilateral relations, which have been severely tested in recent years. In fact, the weapons deliveries to Kiev suspended this week had been approved by the Biden administration.
Just hours after the meeting between the two presidents, a massive Russian nighttime attack, with 539 drones and 11 missiles, struck Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, leaving at least 26 people injured and setting fire to 13 areas of the city, including homes, medical facilities, and railway infrastructure.
Zelensky’s Comment
“Once again, Russia demonstrates that it has no intention of ending the war and terror”, Zelensky commented on social media. “This was one of the most extensive, deliberate, and cynical air attacks”. The Kremlin seems to be taking advantage of the fact that Washington is opting for a softer line with Moscow.
This is evident with the fact that, according to media reports, the White House’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is working to revoke energy sector sanctions against Russia. According to Politico, talks are already underway to reactivate the Nord Stream with the support of U.S. investors.
