Hungary: Shifting Away from Russian Influence?
The Hungarian government of Orbán has been pro-Russian since 2010 for ideological and pragmatic economic reasons. After the 2026 elections, its foreign policy could change. If Orbán remains in power, he will remain friendly with Russia and anti-Ukrainian. If the opposition wins, it will align with the EU’s policy on Russia and Ukraine. Orbán has praised Russia and frequently met with Putin.
