East Asia: Digital Infrastructure Under Pressure
Taiwan and Japan strengthen defense of their submarine cables against constant Chinese interference. Recent incidents, such as damage to the Taiwan-Penghu No. 3 cable, have generated tensions. Taiwan accuses Chinese ships of intentionally cutting their vital communication cables. Taiwan has implemented protection measures, such as the Submarine Cable Automatic Warning System. Japan has also elevated the importance of its submarine infrastructure, seeking autonomy and minimizing Chinese technologies.
