Rosa Parks: Mother of the Movement and Icon of the Black Community
Rosa Parks, known as the ‘mother of the Civil Rights Movement’, challenged segregation in 1955 by refusing to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery. Without her own children, she functioned as a “mother” to the African American community, supporting and guiding the youth. She founded a personal development institute and her legacy highlights the importance of “othermothers” within the black community.
