The credibility of U.S. government data is crucial for the economy and strategic decision-making of businesses. Sectors such as retail trade, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, transportation, and insurance rely on these data to plan and operate. Additionally, they affect citizens through economic and financial policies that impact employment and inflation.
The democratic weakening affected companies, generating uncertainty and reducing investment in essential data. Authoritarian decisions by the Trump administration, such as cuts in science and trade tariffs, influenced long-term planning and hiring of professionals. Hostility towards immigrants and cuts in education damaged key industries such as biotechnology and technology. The decline in tourism and interference in media also caused economic damage.
The Brookings Institution’s Wellness in Black Life (WIBL) project partnered with community organizations to explore the well-being of Black boys and men, identifying five key dimensions and developing inclusive policies. They seek to create sustainable alliances between communities, activists, researchers, and policymakers to measure and support this well-being across diverse U.S. communities.
